# Wi-Fi and networking

Most Wi-Fi problems aren't solved by buying a faster internet package. They come from where the equipment sits, how it's configured, and what's competing for the same airwaves.

## What I can help with

- **Dead spots and dropouts:** finding the cause before suggesting new hardware.
- **Mesh and access points:** wired access points where possible, wireless mesh where not.
- **UniFi setups:** new installs, and sorting out existing ones.
- **Separate networks:** keeping smart devices and guests away from your computers and files.
- **Remote access:** a VPN so you can reach your home network safely while you're out.
- **Printers and shared storage:** devices that stay visible on the network.

## Why separate your smart devices?

Cheap smart devices don't always get security updates. Putting them on their own network limits what a compromised device can reach. It's one of the most useful changes you can make, and it's mostly configuration.
